First Post

I suppose I should identify the point of this thing (as it will last for a semester; after that, the point will change) BEFORE making future posts and possibly confusing innocent people passing through.
I'm not really writing this for enjoyment. I don't mean to be rude, but I do mean to possibly be helpful. I'm a brand new Horticulture student who will spend 90% of her time for the next 4 semesters memorizing, identifying and otherwise engulfed with plants. (graduate in Spring of 2015, if I'm lucky, which feels like FOREVER, because it is. Haha. I jest.) This basically means that if you don't like trees, for instance, you might not want to be here.

  • I do intend to post photos from other sources, but I will be tagging them as accurately as possible so I can make sure to link to the rightful owner. Considering that this is essentially intended to help me memorize and identify plants, I can't expect to be able to take all of my own photos (that's not to say I won't take plenty of my own). I do not want any copyright infringement whining.
  • I also do not intend to share this with classmates in such a way that would imply I'm cheating. Any and all notes that I turn in for homework will be my own; all information put on here should be relatively easily researched in one's own time, but put here and consolidated for future access by whoever finds it. My homework will look different, I hope, than my blog layout. Primarily, I intend to use this as a study tool.
  • I will be updating as often as possible, otherwise known as a staggered weekly basis. I get super busy until - well, I'm always busy, so who knows when I'll make posts? I'm going to try to put in everything I can after turning in my online homework for various professors. This is a study tool, not a mandatory assignment, so I will not be prioritizing it over my work.
Otherwise, I hope to make this fun and informative and to shed some light on misconceptions, misunderstandings and curiosity. :D Welcome to Mel's plant blog!

ALSO: I intend to make sure all of my background photos are ones I have taken myself. As of 8/30/12, the photo being used is one from Greer, SC, that I took back in July during a thunderstorm. It's mine. MINE.
